May 31, 2005
Bikes Belong Coalition added two full-time staff members to its team in May, bringing the total to four at the organization’s Colorado headquarters. Randy Strong was selected as Membership Development Director, while Elizabeth Train accepted a full-time position as Grants & Research Director. Strong brings a wealth of business and sales experience to Bikes Belong. His 10 years in the northern California high-tech business included senior sales positions at Macromedia and Silicon Graphics. At Bikes Belong, he manages all of the group’s memberships, ensuring high quality relationships with 400 supporters. Strong also leads recruitment of new members, and seeks strategic partnerships outside the bicycle industry to increase Bikes Belong’s strength and influence. Strong was a junior champion bike racer in Indiana and a member of the winning team in the Little 500 while a student at IU. Train has served as Bikes Belong’s freelance Grants Program Manager since September 2004. In her new, expanded role, she continues to administer Bikes Belong’s grants, and also leads the organization’s heightened efforts to support bicycle research and compile statistics. A professional writer and editor since 1998, Train’s experience includes editing the International Mountain Bicycling Association’s trailbuilding book, as well as numerous outdoor guidebooks for Westcliffe publishers. She is an avid rider who has participated in ultra-endurance events. “Now is an exciting time for Bikes Belong,” said Tim Blumenthal, Bikes Belong’s executive director. “We’re building our staff, our areas of expertise, and our mix of important projects that make bicycling better in America.” of all our staff.
