Congress Finalizes New Federal Transportation Bill

After two years of delays and 10 extensions, the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives approved a new multi-year Federal Transportation Bill today and sent it to President Bush for signature. When the new bill becomes law, it will increase bike funding by more than $1 billion through 2009. The bill creates the first-ever national Safe Routes to School Program, and authorizes more money for transportation enhancements, recreational trails, and other key programs that support bike facilities.
