Industry Offers Insight into National Bike Summit Attendance

May 14, 2005

Bikes Belong recently completed a survey of bicycle industry members to learn why some did not attend the National Bike Summit March 16-18, 2005, in Washington, D.C. More than 140 people responded to the survey, citing time constraints and the expense as key reasons they skipped the event. The top two reasons for not attending—“required too much time away from work” and “couldn’t afford it”—each garnered a 36.4 percent response. A whopping 70.3 percent said they would be more likely to come if the summit were two days instead of three. Respondents also indicated they would like a better understanding of the summit and its importance. Bikes Belong will use the survey results to work with the event’s organizer, the League of American Bicyclists, to increase attendance at future summits. about the National Bike Summit.
