League Hosts the Best National Bike Summit Ever

We're expanding our influence in Washington, D.C. This year's National Bike Summit, March 14-16, was the biggest and broadest to date, strengthening bicycling's voice in our nation's capital. Presented by the League of American Bicyclists with top sponsorship from Bikes Belong, this annual gathering combines valuable seminars with a coordinated lobbying effort on Capitol Hill. A snapshot of this year's summit:
- Record attendance, with 435 participants
- 92 industry representatives, including 10 Bikes Belong board members
- 310 Congressional meetings
- A successful BikesPAC fundraiser, attended by four U.S. Senators, that raised a record sum for Bikes Belong's political action committee
- High-level IMBA sponsorship and participation
- Reintroduction of the Bicycle Commuters Benefits Act in both the House and Senate
- An inspirational speech by Floyd Landis, the 2006 Tour de France champion
- A landmark meeting between President Bush and a group of industry and advocacy leaders to discuss bicycling
