PAC Guidelines

Companies and corporations are prohibited from contributing to political action committees, however, as a nonprofit 501c6 trade association for the bicycle industry, the Bikes Belong Coalition is allowed to establish and operate a political action committee. Bikes Belong administers BikesPAC according to strict Federal Election Commission (FEC) guidelines.

BikesPAC is a separate, segregated fund (political action committee) established by the Bikes Belong Coalition. The mission of BikesPAC is to collect contributions from employees of Bikes Belong supplier and retailer members and make strategic donations to Members of Congress based on voting records and willingness to work to achieve the industry’s agenda.

FEC regulations are specific about keeping contributions to BikesPAC separate from the operating funds of Bikes Belong. As the host entity, Bikes Belong can provide the operating expenses to run BikesPAC from the annual dues paid by members of Bikes Belong. However, contributions to BikesPAC go into a separate account.

BikesPAC qualifies as a multicandidate PAC because it has been registered with the FEC for more than six months, has received contributions from more than 50 people, and has made contributions to more than five federal candidates.

BikesPAC can donate up to $5,000 per candidate per election.
