Facilities Grant Application
Following is the information required to submit a facilities grant application.

Facilities Grant Application Narrative
Please provide the following information in narrative form. Throughout the narrative, list a reference before each section. For example, put a header that says, “B. Purpose of the Grant – 1. Specific Activities – a) Goals,” when describing the proposal’s specific goals.
The narrative, excluding attachments, should not exceed seven pages. Incomplete or excessively long applications will not be considered.
Proposal Narrative- Organizational Information
- Summary of your organization’s mission, long-term goals, and history. If you are not a bicycle advocacy organization, describe why and how you are invested in putting more people on bicycles more often.
- Description of successes in recent projects and programs.
- Purpose of the Grant
- SITUATION
- Need: Explain why your project is important and necessary right now, for you and for the bicycling community.
- Environment: Briefly describe current bicycling conditions in your project’s market area, including infrastructure, programs, allies, and resistance that must be overcome.
- SPECIFIC ACTIVITIES: Short-term Goals
- Goals: List the goals of the project.
- Action Plan: Present a clear plan for reaching these goals. Be specific—describe your accomplishments so far, list individuals or groups assigned to tasks, and outline due dates/timetables for achieving your goals.
- IMPACT OF YOUR WORK: Long-term Goals
- Deliverables: Describe the measurable outcomes of your project and the methodology used to determine these outcomes. If applicable, please include the miles of path/trail you will be building and the miles of trail facilities connected by your project.
- Ridership: Include the total population of your market area and a projected number of new cyclists as a result of your project.

- Evaluation
- Explain strategies and plans for determining your project’s success—both in the short term and in the long term.
- Describe how your project could serve as a model for other communities.
- Project Budget
- Describe the total budget for the project and how the funding from Bikes Belong will be spent. Be specific.
- Note all other sources of funding (committed or proposed). Will the Bikes Belong funding leverage federal, state, or private funds? Will it help serve as a matching grant?
- Attachments
- FINANCIALS
- Financial statements from your most recently completed fiscal year (If you are a municipality, please submit only ONE copy of your financials. A link to online financials is fine.)
- Organizational budget for the present year
- OTHER SUPPORT MATERIALS
- Support letters from the local bicycle industry*
- List of board members and their affiliations
- Map/plan of the project and area (if applicable)
- Media articles, if available
- FINANCIALS
*Support letters from the local bicycle industry are required and tremendously important to your proposal. Letters from Bikes Belong member companies are preferred. Additional (non-industry) support letters will be considered if they are relevant.
