Bikes Belong Elects New Officers

December 15, 2005

Three U.S. bike industry leaders were elected as new Bikes Belong Coalition officers at the organization's November 29 board meeting in Chicago. Kozo Shimano, president of Shimano American Corporation, was picked to become president. Steve Meineke, president of Raleigh America, was selected as vice president. Chris Fortune, CEO of Saris Cycling Group, was elected treasurer. All three began service immediately and will continue until the end of 2007.

The new trio replaces outgoing president Bill Fry (Bell Riddell Sports), vice president Lisa Robinson Falvy (Sportworks), and treasurer Chris Kegel (Wheel & Sprocket). The outgoing group of officers led Bikes Belong through a period of significant growth and new accomplishments.

During 2005 Bikes Belong played a key role in securing $4.5 billion for bicycle and pedestrian facilities and programs in the new federal transportation law. The organization also awarded close to $450,000 to national, regional and local bicycling projects. Bikes Belong recently produced a bicycling promotion booklet, “Bicycling: Moving America Forward,” which is being widely distributed to government leaders, business CEOs, the national media, and suppliers and retailers.
