Bike Business Tip Sheet on Meeting with Your Member of Congress

Bike business leaders, both suppliers and retailers, can play a powerful role in assuring federal support for bicycling. You provide jobs and pay a variety of taxes, which makes your voice extra important in this tight economy.

You can help by meeting with your U.S. Representative. The U.S. is divided into 435 Congressional Districts, and one member of Congress represents the place where your business is headquartered. Congress has traditionally played the leading role in investing in bike paths, trails, bridges, underpasses, and beneficial programs like Safe Routes to School. Your vocal support for these investments will help your business and help bicycling.

This tip sheet explains how to arrange a meeting with your member of Congress (or their staff) at an in-district office. Use the sample letter forms below to request a meeting. Feel free to contact Bikes Belong for additional help with this process.
