Stats & Research
Bicycling is good for communities, great for health, and a solution to many of our most pressing societal and environmental problems. It also contributes to the U.S. economy through bike and equipment sales as well as tourism dollars. Facts, figures, and scientific studies that affirm these benefits bolster our efforts to increase support for bicycling.
We’re constantly adding to our library of compelling facts and statistics that describe recent bicycling trends and the health, environmental, and economic effects of bicycling in the U.S. We’ve studied recreational road ride events to estimate their national size and economic impact. We also worked with an industry leadership conference to survey more than 2,000 bicycling enthusiasts—including 500 women—about their bicycling habits, purchases, and experiences. And we’re funding research that will measure the value of investment in bicycle facilities to local businesses.
