Promoting Bicycling
We want to make bicycling mainstream. Bicycling promotion is one way we work towards this goal. We talk to the press, share statistics, create publications, and conduct nationwide ad campaigns. In addition, we provide photos and materials to help others promote bicycling.
Here are some ways Bikes Belong advances a positive image of bicycling throughout the country:
PeopleForBikes Campaign — We're trying to unify the movement by asking 1 million bike riders to sign a pledge saying that they support bicycling.
Press coverage — Each year, we provide interviews to hundreds of journalists nationwide.
Ad Campaign — We created a nationwide ad campaign—including print and billboard ads—to inspire more people to ride bikes.
Bike Sharing — We teamed with Humana to provide 1,000 loaner bikes during the 2008 Democratic and Republican national conventions. This effort showcased bicycling on a national stage and spread the message that bicycling is a healthy, safe, and convenient way to take short trips. Learn more.
Bicycling Booklet — We’ve distributed 50,000 copies of our booklet, Bicycling - Moving America Forward, which highlights the benefits of bicycling.
Statistics — We facilitate communication among the leading sources of bicycle industry statistics so we can present a unified, accurate picture of ridership, industry sales trends, and the value of bicycling to the U.S. economy. In addition, we’re assembling data on the benefits of bicycling to help make a case with community and government leaders.
Photos — We conduct professional photo shoots to capture high-quality riding images, and then share these images to help others promote bicycling.
Videos — We've started creating videos now and then, if we think of a good story to tell.
Kids — By supporting the Safe Routes to School National Partnership, we help promote bicycling to school-age kids coast to coast.
